Technical Quality Manager 

Our Fletchers bakery has over 125 years of baking tradition, with our Kara bakery supplying delicious wholesale bakery products for over 35 years starting with the first floured bap. Both have been part of the Finsbury Food Group since 2014. Fletchers Bakery can trace its roots back to 1895 and both bakeries portfolio of products have risen (get it?) to include gourmet brioche, traditional sliced bread, bloomer breads and vegan and gluten free options, to name a but a few.

Job Purpose 

To manage the quality functions of Fletchers Bakery in order to achieve compliance with legislation and agree customer requirements.  To ensure that the quality systems is adhered to and that all possible measures are taken to ensure quality within Fletchers Bakery. To support the central technical team in implementation of systems to drive technical standards and continuous improvement.  To manage objectives set by the Site Technical Manager to ensure completion within agreed timescales.

Role Key Accountabilities 

  • To manage the day to day activities of the site quality functions to take responsibility for the factory quality activities as met by the QFLM team. 
  • To supervise and develop the performance of the QFLM teams and other teams throughout the site.   
  • To provide support to Operations to allow them to operate to the required technical and quality standards whilst maintaining operational efficiency. 
  • To monitor audit GMP standards in the factory and ensure corrective actions are taken where necessary to drive standards.  To ensure routine internal audits i.e. hygiene, glass and brittle material, foreign bodies and GMP are conducted by your team to meet the site’s quality management system requirements. 
  • To ensure the Quality system documentation is audited and correctly archived. 
  • To audit and sign off QA team process records daily and follow up issues. 
  • To utilise internal systems e.g. M3 for traceability purposes, Power BI for product quality trending, Autocoding systems for food safety purposes & be part of implementation teams when new systems are introduced.  Ultimately to become the SME for the Technical/Quality function.   
  • To support customer visits and third party audits and to actively support the Site Technical Manager, Compliance Manager and other persons within the Technical team. 
  • To approve product quality standards & ensure their correct use 
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with Food Safety, Legality and Quality Systems 

Continuous Improvement: 

  • To utilise available data to improve product quality and drive standards within the business 
  • To utilise Root Cause Problem Solving techniques to improve product quality drive standards 
  • Participate in site & business-wide continuous improvement activities 
  • To work with Quality Management peer group across Finsbury to standardise ways of working and share best practice 
  • Seek ways to automate/systemise tasks to remove administration to allow team time to focus on further CI activity 

 

Knowledge Skills and Experience 

  • Relative experience in a similar environment and working knowledge of relative legislative criteria and industry standards for food production 
  • General and product knowledge and understanding of the company goals and structure 
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations 
  • Attention to detail and conscientious nature to ensure all tasks are completed 
  • Demonstrate the required leadership skills: lead by example, team participation, conduct activities which build to deliver site & business strategy. 
  • Relevant qualification and in-depth knowledge of Food Safety, Microbiology and Quality Assurance
  • Proven track record for and drive for continuous improvement
  • Experienced in leading and developing a successful team
  • Flexible with a hands-on approach
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to work on own initiative
  • Able to work under pressure
