The Role

We are a value business, focused on making gyms and fitness accessible to as many people as possible. Data is at the heart of how we run our business, starting from where to open our gyms, through what we offer within them through to how we engage with past, current, and future members. Combining the data from our 2.5 million plus members with data about locations, operations, and performance allows us to unlock industry leading insights and drive a better member experience and commercial performance.

Data is a core competitive advantage to use as market leader, helping us guide decisions at scale and personalisation at the member level. To unlock the value of data, PureGym has built a Group Insights & Analytics function, comprised of a Data Engineering team, a Data Science team and an Insights team, recognising the importance of close collaboration of data teams to quickly and efficiently deliver business value.

Our cloud-based technology stack builds on Azure Databricks to ensure data is reliably and easily available to the business. As we continue to grow, we are moving towards a group data platform and are looking for someone to lead on this journey and help shape the approach to data across the group. Our goal is a unified data platform to enable data driven decision-making and self-service across all countries in our group and this role plays a critical part of that journey.

We are looking for a Data Engineering Manager to manage our London-based Data Engineering team, taking ownership of our data platform delivering and growing data and self-serve capabilities across the group. • Manage and mentor team members, supporting them in their delivery, development and growth

  • Translate business needs and objectives in data projects, working closely with both technical and business stakeholders in their delivery
  • Shape and ensure adherence to data governance practice
  • Own data quality and data quality reporting
  • Evangalise best practice use of data
  • Explore additional data sources that can augment PureGym’s data asset to create business value
  • Engage with the wider data community to ensure PureGym leverages the right tools and techniques for working with data
  • Work with colleagues in the wider technology function to share best practice Azure and cloud management practices
  • Contribute to the strategy and vision of the overarching Insights & Analytics function
