Assistant Security Manager - The Bower
The Assistant Security Manager is responsible for assisting the Head of Security overseeing the security operations of a specific site, ensuring the safety and security of all personnel, assets, and property. This role involves developing and implementing security policies, managing a team of security personnel, coordinating with law enforcement, and responding to emergencies. The Assistant Security Manager acts as the primary point of contact for all security-related matters at the site.
The purpose of this role is to protect the client’s business interests by the provision of a security presence in addressing issues dealing with fire, damage, theft and health and safety issues.
Responsible for all staff assigned to your site, and their welfare. To ensure their standard of work is that as expected by Ward Security Ltd and the client.
Main responsibilities |
- To assist the Head of Security and ensure that all duties are carried out by you and your team in accordance with the site-specific Assignment Instructions and in accordance with the clients and company’s wishes.
- To effectively control the access to the client’s premises, examining documentation to ascertain the authenticity and authority to gain access.
- To provide necessary training and guidance to the security team.
- To conduct staff appraisals in a timely and effective manner.
- To provide monitoring functions to CCTV and alarm functions, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed. To be aware of the operation of those functions and to respond as required.
- To submit detailed reports on discovery of issues relating to health and safety and crime to the relevant authority either verbally or in report form as required (monthly report).
- In line with Company policy, carry out routine search procedures in a sensitive manner to include vehicles, buildings, and persons.
- To effectively deal with all incidents falling within the security remit. To effectively report all incidents to the relevant authority.
- To ensure that the building is locked/unlocked in a timely and efficient manner.
- To maintain a log of all visitors, incidents and any other records that may be required by the client.
- To maintain the client’s key safe to issue and record all movements of keys within the client’s premises.
- To identify suspicious persons and actions and report such circumstances.
- To undertake other related duties as may be required after consultation with the Regional Operations Manager or Head of Security in line with the specific site requirements.
- To carry out patrols as and when required, covering all points described within the Patrol section of the Security Officers job description.
- Liaise with client and tenants on any relevant and up to date security related matters. Provide advice and suggestions (e.g., toolbox talks, crime stats, fliers etc) to ensure knowledge and awareness is at the forefront.
- Ensure the high standards of the staff appearance and performance, that all staff work in safe conditions, act upon all reports of accidents and faults and that staff carry out their duties in accordance with procedures.
- Comply and ensure all members of staff complies with The Bower and Ward Policies and procedures and Assignment Instructions.
- Work in partnership with service partners and customers’ representatives, ensuring all aspects of the site requirements are effectively managed.
- Ensure professional conduct of your shift and ensure staffing requirements are maintained with regular site trained individuals, to include provision for holidays, sickness and records fully maintained.
- Manage and be conversant with the Key and Patrol Management, Access, CCTV, Fire and Security systems installed, ensuring that all staff are fully conversant in the roles and carrying out their required duties.
- Ensure that all equipment is managed, used, monitored and reported defective in accordance with site procedures and securely maintain a minimal stock of key items to ensure contingency items are available.
- Fully control and respond to all emergency situations, ensuring that the necessary investigations and reports are completed and submitted in the timely manner as per the Assignment Instructions.
- Ensure Health and Safety of staff and visitors as per safety file. Responding to all emergencies in accordance with procedure and to play an integral part in the safe evacuation of visitors, staff, and contractors minimising risk.
- Conduct team checks around the building and ensure that these checks are recorded, and any concerns are raised with member of staff immediately.
Administrative
- Ensure compliance with both the SIA and KPI requirements, minimising associated risks to Ward and The Bower.
- Have a sound working knowledge of the various roles within the environment to include assistance in developing and reviewing site procedures as and when required.
- Liaise with tenants, emergency services, local authorities and local business users and maintain a strong working relationship.
- Take ownership of all CCTV, access control and alarm systems for The Bower whilst adhering to the General Data Protection Regulations 2018 and The Bower CCTV Policy.
- To ensure that all staff SIA/CCTV Licences are on display at all times while at work.

Health and Safety responsibilities
Ensure work is carried out in accordance with site/department procedures and training provided.
- Comply with the Ward Health and Safety Policy, procedures and protocols at all times.
- Ensure you have received the required training prior to commencing works.
- Ensure that you are working in accordance with the safe system of works, as briefed by your Line Manager.
- Ensure that you are fit for work prior to reporting for duty each day.
- Report any health and safety concerns to your line manager.
- Once Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has been issued ensure that you keep it serviceable at all times and report any defects to your line manager.
- Always ensure while at work you are wearing the correct PPE.
- If you are operating equipment, you must operate safely in accordance with the instruction and training provided
- Set a good example at all times.
First AiderHealth and Safety responsibilities
All First Aiders must complete an accredited First Aid at Work training course and provide first aid in accordance with training provided and attend a refresher training course every 3 year - all First Aiders shall:
- Respond promptly to all requests for assistance.
- Summon further help when necessary (emergency services).
- Look after the casualty until recovery has taken place or further medical assistance has arrived.
- Report details of any treatment administered.
- Ensure Ward Accident Report Book is completed.
Required skills & Experience |
Essential
- Deliver excellent customer service.
- Five years experience in a position of leading a team of 10 or more officers either as a Supervisor or Manager.
- Proven 3 year history of working in a Security control room.
- Competent IT Skills
- Demonstrate the ability to think and act quickly in emergencies or under pressure.
- Have an ability to deliver clear verbal and written reports where necessary.
- Maintain a high standard of personal presentation.
- Demonstrate reliability including the ability to deliver high standards of both punctuality and attendance in order to ensure team effectiveness and availability.
- Able to demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team.
- Able to deal calmly and confidently with all demands from the public.
- An understanding of the principles of equality and diversity in relation to visitors’ needs.
- An interest in and commitment to the work of Ward for its clients.
- Experience of incident identification, obtaining evidence, resolution and recommendation.
- Good interpersonal skills, to liaise with security officers, client, contractors and members of the public at all levels.
